History of the Costa de la Calma

The Costa de la Calma has been settled since the beginning of human history. In the immediate vicinity of the village of Puig de sa Morisca, archaeologists have discovered settlements of the Taraiot culture. Ancient buildings from antiquity to the Moorish period have been excavated there and largely restored. In the 13th century, King James I of Aragon landed his army near today's Santa Ponsa marina to reconquer the Balearic Islands of Mallorca from the Muslim Moors. Today, an impressive stone cross commemorates the historic event at this site. On the first weekend in September, the inhabitants of the coastal towns reenact the battle.

Sports facilities in the Costa de la Calma

The area around the Costa de la Calma offers many possibilities for sports enthusiasts. Water sports are particularly noteworthy. Three famous marinas - Puerto Portals, Santa Ponsa and Porto Adriano - are only a few steps away from the seaside resort. Among them, Port Adriano is considered one of the most imposing harbours on Mallorca. The largest and most exclusive yachts are located here. But also less expensive hobbies like water skiing, surfing, snorkelling and diving are possible here.

With four first-class golf courses on your doorstep, the choice can be difficult. Santa Ponsa I, Santa Ponsa II, Golf de Andratx and T-Golf each have their own charm. The 18-hole course with four par-5 holes at Golf de Andratx is considered particularly challenging. The club is set in a picturesque landscape of olive groves and almond trees. Affectionately called "The Green Monster" by the players, the 6th hole is 609 metres long and represents the playing highlight of the course.
