Golf de Andratx is one of the most beautiful and challenging golf courses in the southwest of Mallorca. The history of Camp de Mar

Camp de Mar has a relatively short history. The entire coast between Port d'Andratx and Paguera was the target of numerous pirate raids in the Middle Ages. The rugged coastline offered these North African buccaneers sufficient protection to hide. Consequently, numerous forts and watchtowers were built in the 16th century to protect the coast. The municipalities of Andratx and Calvia alone built 12 watchtowers that have survived for centuries.

Camp de Mar established itself as a holiday resort in 1932 with the construction of the first hotel. The British secret agent Thomas Harris was one of the most famous residents after the Second World War. In 1949, he bought a property there and has since devoted himself to painting. The spy died under mysterious circumstances in a car accident.

Camp de Mar later developed into a luxury tourist destination. Small, exclusive hotels were built near the beach, attracting mainly wealthy holidaymakers.

There are boat trips from the beach to Sa Dragonera, for example - an enchanting place for nature fans. Several species of gulls also choose the island as a breeding ground.

The village of Sant Elm is very close to Camp de Mar and offers numerous hiking trails, such as the famous "La Trapa", which is the name of the ruins of a former Trappist monastery. The former monastery is located in the remote "Val de Sant Joseph" between Sant Elm and Estellencs on the south-western edge of the Serra de Tramuntana.

Another popular hiking destination is the mountain village of Es Capdella, which belongs to the municipality of Calvia. The headland bordering the beach of Camp de Mar is called Cap Andritxo.

The location to the island's capital Palma and the airport is almost ideal, as the village is about 25-30 minutes by car from the lively metropolis.
