Whichever end of the Mediterranean island you are staying on, a top-class culinary experience is not far away. We introduce you to the award-winning restaurants on Mallorca, all of which guarantee a gourmet experience in a class of its own.

There are restaurants on Mallorca like the sand on the breathtaking beaches of the Balearic island. In many places, Mallorcan cuisine emphasises the highest quality in order to offer guests an incomparable gustatory experience in a chic interior, as the current edition of the famous "red book" shows. The publishers of the "Guia Michelin de España y Portugal" honoured seven restaurants on Mallorca with one of the renowned Michelin stars. Zaranda, run by chef Fernando Pérez Arellano, even received two Michelin stars. The island can therefore boast a total of eight Michelin stars.

Andreu Genestra - One of the most beautifully situated Michelin restaurants in Mallorca

In 2012, Andreu Genestra Restaurant opened in the centre of a small country hotel in Capdepera with a view of the breathtaking castle. Three years later, owner and chef Andreu Genestra was awarded a Michelin star for his exquisite cuisine. Adjacent to the hotel, the Michelin-starred chef has his own garden of around 6,000 square metres, where he grows the ingredients for his dishes himself. When travelling in winter, he buys spices for his creations from all over the world. His own chickens provide him with fresh eggs.

There is no menu at Adreu Genestra, but there are three different tasting menus that fulfil all the requirements of a true gourmet experience. The courses range from delicious meat dishes to various seafood and selected cheese platters, all of which are refined with ingredients grown on site. The best place to dine is on the restaurant's terrace with a selected glass of wine and a unique view of Capdepera Castle. The interior of the restaurant also impresses with its minimalist, stylish look.

Es Fum - One of the best restaurants on Mallorca right on the coast

The Es Fum restaurant in Costa d'en Blanes is located on the ground floor of the five-star St. Regis Mardavall resort below Palma along the Mallorcan coast. Under the collaboration of chef José Miguel Navarro, who has since been appointed head chef, the gourmet restaurant received its first Michelin star in 2011, which Es Fum has not relinquished since. In his illustrious career, the Michelin-starred chef has also cooked at El Celler de Can Roca in Girone, which was recognised as the world's best restaurant in 2013. With Es Fum, a Michelin-starred chef with undeniable expertise has set up shop on Mallorca, and his guests are able to experience this to the full.

Es Fum doesn't need much to impress. It is only open seasonally and only offers dinner, thus ensuring a refreshing exclusivity. Instead of serving a menu, Es Fum only offers a petit menu and a tasting menu to choose from. Only the ingredients that are used are listed. This means that every dish is a surprise, but never a disappointment. Instead, your taste buds are sent on a journey that you will remember for a long time to come.

The service at Es Fum also proves why it is one of the best restaurants on Mallorca. The experienced restaurateurs impress with professional, cordial service that is free of any rigid formality and a sommelier who will excellently provide you with the most suitable wines to accompany your culinary experience.

Es Racó d'es Teix - Award-winning cuisine and the fusion of German and Mallorcan specialities

Es Racó d'es Teix has been located in the middle of the mountains of Deiá since 1999, where Josef Sauerschell, a native of southern Germany, prepares his excellently harmonised dishes. Three years after opening his restaurant, which quickly became famous throughout the island, he earned a Michelin star for his art, which combines German specialities with Mediterranean Mallorcan tradition, purely for his passion for cooking and without working towards an award. With his excellent sense for food, Sauerschell is considered a pioneer of today's gourmet scene on Mallorca.

Together with his wife Leonor Payeras, Sauerschell runs the gourmet restaurant, which offers selected, changing tasting menus and lighter lunch menus in addition to established classics. But it is not only the excellent cuisine, outstanding service and high-quality ingredients that make a visit to Es Racó d'es Teix a memorable experience. The high-quality wines, most of which come from the island and mainland Spain, are personally selected each month by Sauerschell to match the dishes. A visit to the restaurant is rounded off by the unique view of the mountain slopes of Deiá, covered in a rich variety of flora, which can be enjoyed from the romantic terrace as well as from the cosy indoor seating.

The Jardín in Perto Alcúdia - Michelin restaurant on Mallorca's north coast with traditional Mallorcan cuisine

The Jardín restaurant is located directly on the Mallorcan north coast in the coastal town of Puerto Alcúdia. In 2012, Macarena de Castro was the first female chef in Mallorca to receive the prestigious Michelin star for her outstanding interpretation of Mallorcan cuisine, which she has never lost. The star chef has been working in the family-run restaurant under the management of her brother for eight years. The restaurant is only open during the summer. But that doesn't mean that Macarena de Castro takes a few quiet months off, rather she continues to hone her skills with her team on the coast of Uruguay in her restobar Jardín by Sarava.

Macarena de Castro offers its guests two selected tasting menus as well as various individual dishes. The menus change regularly, consist of different courses and are served with specially selected wines. The traditional Mallorcan cuisine is combined with various unique ingredients and thus united with a great deal of originality to create a special gourmet experience that you will not find anywhere else on the Mediterranean island. The restaurant's quiet location far away from the crowds of tourists and its romantic garden for stylish al fresco dining are also impressive. The interior of the Jardín impresses with its modern, chic style, which reflects the artistic character of the Castro family.

Restaurant Marc Fosh - savour the innovative dishes of the British star chef on Mallorca

Simply Fosh in Palma de Mallorca changed its name to Marc Fosh, the British chef of award-winning cuisine, in 2016. The restaurant received its well-deserved Michelin star back in 2015. The speciality: Marc Fosh is the first British chef in Spain to be awarded a star. Anyone who has ever tasted the creative cuisine, which combines local produce from local markets to create unique dishes, will not doubt the gourmet restaurant's accolade.

Except on Sundays, lunch and dinner are served daily at Marc Fosh. The lunch menus are changed weekly. Culinary journeys through Marc Fosh's creative dishes are offered in multi-course menus that leave nothing to be desired. The various courses of fish and meat dishes are accompanied by matching wines from sommelier Gabriel Lucas. Of course, vegetarian menus are also available. The creations are enjoyed either outdoors on the patio or in the urban yet stylish interior of the restaurant.

Zaranda in es Capdellà - The only Michelin-starred restaurant with two Michelin stars

Before relocating the gourmet restaurant to Mallorca, Zaranda first opened in the Spanish metropolis of Madrid in 2005 under the direction of Michelin-starred chef Fernando Pérez Arellano, where it was awarded a Michelin star just one year after opening. After moving to the Castell Son Claret country hotel near Es Cadellà in the centre of Mallorca, Zaranda became the only Michelin restaurant in Mallorca to be awarded two stars in 2015. Since then, it has not had to relinquish its second star, and for good reason. What makes this award-winning restaurant so special is its exclusive use of ingredients from the island and the Mediterranean. Mallorcan cuisine in its purest form.

The dishes include four tasting menus consisting of ten to twelve courses. The creations are served on crockery specially made by artists, which honours the local artisans and blends in perfectly with the Mallorcan flair. The various courses are accompanied by matching wines from the sommelier and various breads from the restaurant's own bakery. There is also a choice of cocktails, including a syrup made exclusively from flowers from the hotel's own garden. Whether Zarando is the best restaurant in Mallorca is ultimately a matter for everyone to decide for themselves. The general opinion so far is very much in favour of star chef Fernando Pérez Arellano and his exquisite Mallorcan cuisine.
