The dive sites on Mallorca are worth a dive: the island has many water and nature reserves that should not be left undiscovered. The underwater flora and fauna varies greatly depending on the region. From wild reefs, grottos and wrecks to majestic caves, everything is included. Diving in Mallorca is suitable for everyone. Professionals and beginners alike can explore the depths of the sunny island, depending on the level of difficulty. What makes the diving experience on Mallorca so special? The diversity of species in the diving areas around Mallorca is numerous. The rocky bays and beautiful coastal regions are home to many marine animals. There are various diving centres on the island. They not only offer diving safaris, but also teach diving in lessons. From taster sessions to certification, everything is included. You don't have to worry about the equipment either: Most diving centres provide you with the necessary equipment and take participants to the diving hotspots by boat.

Diving in Mallorca: What you should know about the costs

If you want to explore the seabed privately, you must have a diving licence. In this context, it makes sense to also have diving insurance. However, if you first want to learn to dive and join a school, they will take care of the insurance and licences. Daily diving insurance costs around 7 euros; if you prefer to take out monthly insurance, this can cost around 20 euros. The costs for the individual courses vary depending on the school. A taster course lasts around 2-3 hours and costs 90.00 euros. The theoretical basics are explained and the necessary equipment is introduced. After that, you can start diving. The cost of diving varies depending on the certification: The lowest price for diving training is 200 euros, and depending on the destination, diving licences can cost up to 700 euros. The best-known certified courses on Mallorca are the PADI Scuba Diver and the PADI Open Water Diver. In the former case, even after completing the diving course, you may only dive under supervision. With the Open Water Diver, course participants are allowed to dive without supervision after completing the lessons. The Scuba Diver course costs around 240 euros, the price for the Open Water certification is 370 euros.

Timing is everything: the best time to dive in Mallorca

In general, diving in Mallorca is possible all year round. The conditions are much better in certain seasons and under specific temperatures. The peak time for diving in Mallorca is between April and June. Why? There is less tourism on the island during this period, which means that visibility of around 30 metres is possible. Although the water temperature is between 15 and 21 degrees, it is still bearable and allows for carefree diving moments.

Between July and August, the water temperature is 25 degrees. The sea is therefore ideal for diving. Clear visibility is also still guaranteed. It is a good idea to contact the diving centres in good time to get free places. Would you prefer to go on a private diving safari with your yacht? After the end of the summer, between September and October, you can get back to your quiet and exuberant diving experiences. The water continues to offer ideal temperatures for diving. However, you should be careful during this time: In autumn, more jellyfish populate the sea of Mallorca.

The water is very clear from November to March and offers excellent visibility. This period is therefore perfect for diving with friends or family. Courses can be attended from the age of 8. The diving centre is located directly by the sea and therefore offers a breathtaking ambience. From there, you can head directly to fantastic diving areas, including the harbour of Palma, the caves of Porto Pie and various small islands to the south of Mallorca.

Diving on Mallorca is very promising. Especially in the south-western part of the island, you will find various diving spots that offer everything: Wrecks, caves, reefs or simply biodiversity. The south-west of Mallorca is the right choice if you want to discover different underwater worlds. Palma Wracks

Do you also want to dive around Palma? A deep treasure lies in the sea off the harbour of Palma: the wrecks of Palma. They are an interesting diving spot at a depth of 35 metres. There are exactly four wrecks waiting to be explored by experienced divers. The largest of them is 60 metres long. Swimming next to the wrecks are huge schools of fish that have made the wrecks their home.

Illa del Toro

Diving near Santa Ponsa: This region is home to a breathtaking marine reserve - the Illa del Toro. The dive site offers perfect diving conditions, which is why it is one of the best-known and most popular diving spots in the south-west of Mallorca. Moray eels, eels and other schools of fish can be found in the Isla del Sec area, which has a 32 metre deep plateau and three wrecks. Dragon Island

The island of Dragonera is located to the west of Mallorca. It has been a nature reserve since 1995 and has developed into a popular diving area. There are several reasons why the island is so popular: Firstly, the water quality here is excellent, resulting in very good visibility. Discover the rich underwater world: Cabrera is a nature reserve, which is why diving boats are only allowed to visit the island twice a day. In the depths of the island, you will find an excellently preserved seabed and cliffs that drop off up to 90 metres. In addition to seahorses, red starfish, dolphins and sea turtles, schools of barracuda have also made their home in the sea near Cabrera. A special highlight of the dive is the Cova Azul cave, which is known for its bright blue water.

Alcúdia

You can also dive in the north of Mallorca: The wreck of a military submarine that sank in 1949 is located off Alcúdia. As the diving area is relatively far from the coast, it is only advisable to dive in good weather. Diving should only be done as part of a guided tour. Only a few minutes are allowed for diving. Nevertheless, it is worth marvelling at this historic wreck in the deep sea.
