The Northern City Centre can be seen as the centre of Potsdam. Buildings from the past three centuries, especially from the 18th century, characterise the cityscape. From Hegelallee you can reach the parallel Brandenburger Straße, Potsdam's main shopping street, on foot within a few minutes.
